God really blessed our Cajamarca Ceilidh on Saturday night. Just the right number of people turned up to fill the floor with dancers without being squashed. We had just the right amount of dances/songs prepared to fill the three hour slot. The guest Irish Dancers went down really well - thanks Chris - and people seemed to enjoy the food - well they kept going back for more! Oh, and people were really generous (£267-58 so far with contributions still coming in). Thanks to everybody for their terrific support! Watch this space for our Cajamarca Quiz, date and venue still to be finalised.
Chris Shipley (All Saints, Eastchurch) had kindly invited me to speak at their Sunday morning service on the following day and I got a very warm welcome from the congregation there. Thankyou to our brothers and sisters in Eastchurch for making Lilian and me so welcome and showing real interest in the Cajamarca Connection etc.

Palm oil, Fairtrade meal and Cajamarca Ceilidh
Yesterday was the start of Fairtrade Fortnight and thanks to
all the folks who came to our Fairtrade meal which raised £196.69 for
Traidcraft Exchange (the charity which supports the work of Traidcraft). If you
are interested to find out more about the ongoing debate about the problems associated
with the palm oil trade you might like to dip into this website .
Our thoughts are now focussed on the Cajamarca Ceilidh this
coming Saturday at Strode Crescent Baptist Church. Do come along and enjoy a
bit of barn dancing and singing (not forgetting your generous contribution to
the Cajamarca Connection!). The ceilidh starts at 6pm and finishes at 9pm so
that it’s not too late for families.
For anyone who has managed to avoid hearing about the
Cajamarca Connection, it is a project being organised by the Sheppey
Poverty/Justice Group, a Churches Together in Sheppey initiative to raise £1000
by the end of 2014 for the Tearfund development project in Cajamarca, Peru. For
more details on the project click here

Introducing ourselves . . .
Hi,
We were married in 1985 and have always shared a commitment to global poverty/justice. We have been reps for Traidcraft all our married life and are members of the Poverty/Justice group under the umbrella of Churches Together on Sheppey. We hope to use this blog to share our concern for poverty/justice issues and how these relate to our Christian faith. We welcome comments on our blog as a way of sharing our understanding of these complex issues.
Thankyou for taking the trouble to look at our blog,
Richard and Lilian
